This is a short video review of a King Harbour View Suite at Rydges on the harbour in Newcastle just a few hours north of Sydney in NSW. Located on the harbour overlooking one of Australia’s only working sea ports it is conveniently located to amazing restaurants, cafes and bars along the wharf and in the Honeysuckle area. Nobby’s light house and surf beaches are only a leisurely 20 minute walk away. Staycation short break Newcastle

Newcastle is the seventh largest city in Australia. It offers all the benefits of a city stay but it has managed to retain a little bit of it’s country charm and that’s what I love most about Newcastle. World class cafe’s, restaurants and bars abound but you’ll still also find a pub on many corners serving ice cold beer. Novacastrian’s, the locals, are known for being friendly so don’t hesitate to ask questions as they’ll be happy to chat.
When there I highly recommend the harbour & ocean walk from Rydges to as far as Merewether Beach (5.5km). Along the way you’ll pass evidence of convict life on which the city was built, Nobbys light house, Fort Scratchley, art deco ocean baths, several surf beaches, the bogey hole, the Norfolk Pine trees in Kings Park and the Anzac memorial walk. The Surfhouse Cafe on Merewether Beach will have a nice coffee waiting for when you arrive. If you are up for another 4kms you can walk back to Rydges along eclectic Darby Street, or leave this for another day catching a local bus or calling a ride. Staycation short break Newcastle
We also enjoyed an incredible sea food platter at Battlesticks at Scratchleys. On a sunny day the sun reflects beautifully off the harbour so lunch is definitely my pick. There are 2 seperate parts to the restaurant. For a more intimate experience ask for a table on the Battlesticks side. Pre book online at Battlesticks at Scratchleys
