APT Kimberley Wilderness Review
Best suited to those who want to experience this extremely remote area of Australia without the hassle of towing their own caravan. I cannot stress just how remote this area is, it honestly does not get any more remote.
The price of the tour is reflective of the luxurious APT Kimberley Wilderness brand and for this, youâll receive an authentic Australian outback, a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list trip made as comfortable as possible by APT and their staff. I strongly recommend the option to fly out as the road is long and very rough in places. Once youâve seen it on the way in youâve seen it.
Kimberley Wilderness Review
APT received a substantial participation fee from me while I was a guest on this tour. This review, as with all my reviews, is for the purpose of helping you decide if this tour is right for you.

What we really liked | What we didnât like so much |
Opportunity to experience a very remote bucket list destination | âGlampingâ in the remote Kimberley area at the APT Wilderness Lodge only 10 mins from the Bungle Bungles |
Incredible meals were served throughout the trip using local produce | 5 minutes for hot water to come through in the mornings. |
The 2-hour corrugated dirt road in and out of the lodge/National Park. One way is enough, take the option to fly in one -way. | The accommodation at the Kununurra Country Club isnât luxury just the best of whatâs available in the area |
Extensive knowledge of the APT driver/guide of the area and indigenous culture | Early morning starts, plan a few days rest afterward. |

Our experience In Kimberley Wilderness:
Prior to this trip, I did not realize how vast and remote the Kimberley region is in Western Australia.
Bungle Bungles
The Bungle Bungles are 850km from Broome and 1135km from Darwin. Ours was a 4 night/5-day experience so we flew into Kununurra. This was however still a 350km 5.5-hour trip by road of which 2.5 hours is on a dirt road that can be very rough in some places. Outback Australia does not get any more remote than this.
The APT itinerary offers a combination of hiking, cultural and culinary experiences in the unique setting that is the Kimberley. This does mean early morning starts and the ability to walk for a few hours on some of the hikes. Good walking shoes and hiking poles are recommended. APT provides 2 guides on the hikes to allow for a range of hiking abilities.
If the hikes are too strenuous there is the option to fly over whatâs referred to as the Bungle Bungle massive by helicopter instead. We did this and it is an experience I highly recommend to everyone. Flying over is the only way one can truly appreciate the scale of one of the most magnificent natural attractions you will ever see.
This trip is quite active and requires a moderate level of fitness. The oldest ever participant was 92 so it can be done at any age but is one that should be ticked off your bucket list sooner rather than later for the greatest level of ease and enjoyment.
You should not be deterred if the Bungle Bungles is on your bucket list but rough roads and/or the hiking seem like too much. The road into the Bungle Bungles is the same road on the way back to Kununurra.
Once youâve seen it, youâve seen it. I, therefore, recommend flying out of Purnululu National Park instead of driving both ways as we did. Alternatively, if youâd prefer to avoid the long drive and rough road altogether you can fly in and out with the option to stay overnight.
